Garden Update

Sooooooo I tried to do the whole structured bed crop rotation thing. Didn't work for me. As soon as I planted things in rows and blocks pests, disease outbreaks, weeds, and impossible to keep the water up to. Lesson learnt. If plants were meant to be grown in rows, they would be found in rows in the wild. I got sucked in to the "rules" again, and what the books told me. I am scientific in nature, what can I say? I am attracted to neat, structured things. I'm now in the process of 'breaking free' and reverting back to a completely unstructured 'cottage' style garden. Yes mum, the one I bagged you about when I was young- and yes you knew what you were talking about.. It's so messy- but I love it.  A complete jumbled jungle of wonderful foliage & flowers, birds, lizards, bugs and - life.

All I set out to achieve was an edible garden. What I got (aside from amazingly fresh variety of food) was peace, solitude, joy, knowledge (the kind not in the text books), and a jolly whopper of a tank top tan! bahahaha. Not to mention getting stronger, more flexible and fitter. I like the hard work. I have also revelled in the delight that is the wildlife that are enjoying the garden too. One day I hope to have my own full blown Eco system!  Love it.  I spend a bit of time in my garden every morning. It makes me happy. Everything is alright in my world when my hands are in the dirt. :)

New patch!
Hubby made me three new garden beds (I accidentally ran out of room. Cough Cough.)

Using all possible spaces- vertical or otherwise- and otherwise unusable areas in my yard :)

Rock melons, pumpkins and tamarillo and avocado trees .

Amazing okra! So much of the stuff!

Seedlings :)

Britney's "purple patch" featuring blueberries :))

Herbs, pineapple, and passion fruit.

More seedlings, Annie's flower patch and my mango trees :))

Rosella's and Artichokes

Amaranth, mustard various herbs, and soon to be a field of pumpkin.
Seriously. I hope to fill my entire front yard in pumpkin vines.

Watermelons.

Ill update again after the next major round of seedlings go in....I've got a tonne of flowers and companion/ inter planting type stuff to go in. I'm hoping to attract some more bees and "good bugs". Very exciting. Love it :)

Dancers 'end of year party' cake.

A year in the life of a dancer.....
Dance has given my daughter close friendships, achievement, fitness, a creative outlet, a passion for music, and above all else a means to express herself amongst ALL that teenage angst......Definitely worth celebrating!

So what do I do to celebrate? Make cake!

Long time no blog.

So it has been a while since I last blogged. My business has been put on the back burner as I help my sister start her own business, and my husband who is finishing his trade certificate and is heading out on his own also. Exciting times!!

I have managed to do a food safety handlers ....blah blah.....course. Good thing it was an online one, as it actually put me to sleep. LOL. I have also put in place cleaning schedules, pest control stuff and gone through my kitchen with a fine tooth comb! All in preparation for my business license application, I plan on submitting next month!

Anyhoo, just a quick update :))
